How to store ginger

Ginger is no different from other products in the sense that it has its own, quite certain periods of storage. So, the fresh root of ginger is stored no more than a week, properly dried - up to six months. What are the ways to keep it longer?

Freeze ginger for long-term storage

It's easiest to freeze ginger. Pack the unpurified root of ginger and put into the freezer. After defrosting, it will also contain the whole complex of useful substances, its taste and aroma.

Also cleaned root can be crushed with a blender or simply grate on a fine grater, add the resulting mass into a bag, tighten and tuck into a freezer. To deny the right amount of frozen mass, it is best to freeze this ginger with a thin tile.

Despite the fact that freezing is the easiest way to store ginger, there are other methods.

How to store ginger in alcohol

You can clean ginger and cut it into thin plates, which then pour white wine. In this form it should be stored in the refrigerator, where it will retain its

taste and freshness for several weeks. Prepared in this way, ginger is great for making sauces, although it can be used in the rest of the cooking.

Also, ginger can be cut into small pieces, pour them with alcohol or vodka and give it a few weeks to brew. After a while it can be eaten as usual, and tincture will be a great addition to different drinks.

From the root of ginger, you can also squeeze out the juice, which can then be mixed with alcohol or vodka. It is a wonderful ingredient for cooking meat and sauces.

Storage of ginger using sugar

A simple way. Peel ginger and cut into thin strips. Prepare sugar syrup, water and sugar in equal proportions. Stir and bring to a boil. Pour the ginger with syrup and boil for 10 minutes. After that, cool and clean in the refrigerator.

A complicated way. Initially, the procedure is similar to a simple method, but it has a continuation. Filled syrup ginger should be cooked until thick, then take the ginger and drain the syrup. Then strips of ginger need to roll in the sugar and put on a baking sheet. Dry in the oven and store at room temperature in a sealed package. And the remaining syrup can be used to make ginger ale.
